The dwellings we created here were within traditional hamlets nestled in vast swathes of agricultural land and beautiful undulating vistas. The houses were built substantially using rubble stone, mighty wooden beams, and a roof of mica-slate tiles.
I have always retained these features within each of the houses I’ve built as their texture is exquisite and makes the houses feel solid and secure. Opening up the spaces within these houses was a great lesson in framing views and how to use light within a building, but ultimately the biggest lesson was how to be sympathetic to and authentic in all the work we did remember how the houses were once used, and how they will continue to be used.
All carpentry and stone masonry was created by generational teams of true local artisans. At 360 Leti the bold innovative architecture really speaks for itself so only the gentlest touch of textiles was needed as a way to introduce more local craft within the homes. The houses are full of beautiful handmade fabrics made from artisans living in many different villages deep beyond Leti.
